The Newport Canvassing Authority is charged with conducting all elections for the City of Newport.

Under the direction of the State Board of Elections, and in cooperation with the Secretary of State, the Canvassing Authority is involved in all phases of the electoral process, from voter registration to tallying the votes after the polls close on election day. Click here for agenda

The Standing Charter Review Commission was established by the City Council in 2025 Resolution 2025-49 to more regularly review the City Charter and make timely recommendations to the City Council. The Standing Charter Review Commission is not to replace the Charter Review Commission but shall supplement and assist.
