In September of 2019, Newport's City Council voted to undertake a Transportation Master Plan in the hopes of developing a comprehensive, long-term approach to managing future development and making it easier for residents and visitors to navigate our streets and side-walks.  

In spring 2021, Toole Design Group was hired to develop Newport's first ever Transporta-tion Master Plan. After three phases of public engagement, collaboration with the Division of Statewide Planning, RIPTA and RIDOT, the final draft plan was completed in January, 2023 and adopted by the City Council on April 12, 2023.
