Construction Updates
Here's the latest on the various City-led construction projects currently underway around town. Please note that work initiated by State and private utility contractors may not be reflected below.
Roadway Improvements
Our Roadway Improvement Project 2026 contractor, P.J. Keating Company, has begun work in the City. Below is a list of roadways included in the RIP2026. This is the second City of Newport Bond roadway project.
Roadway Improvements
The following streets will have roadway pavement replaced and sidewalks replaced as required: Ann Street (on going), Binney Street (on going), Church Street (Bellevue Ave to Spring St), Cliff Avenue (on going), Cliff Terrace (on going), Colonial Street (on going), Duke Street (on going), Seaview Avenue (on going), Stone Street, and Wetmore Avenue (on going).
Bridge Street (Washington St. to Gladys Carr Bolhouse Rd.) has been postponed to a future project due to pending RIE gas main replacement prior to improvements.
Roadway improvements include resurfacing the pavement, replacing sidewalks in poor condition, resetting curbing, and other miscellaneous items of work.
Residents will be informed by the contractor prior to start of construction on any given roadway.
As with all our projects, access to properties will be maintained with some inconveniences as the roadways are repaved, driveways are replaced and concrete sidewalks poured. Parking may be restricted during the working week from 7 am to 4 pm as necessary to complete construction. The contractor will place “No Parking” signs prior to construction start and inform residents of impending work.

Please note that while the initial paving work is expected to move quickly, sidewalk and curbing improvements will stretch into fall before the final coat of pavement will be placed. More information will become available as work progresses.
As with all our projects, access to properties will be maintained with some inconveniences as the roadways are repaved, driveways are replaced and concrete sidewalks poured. Parking may be restricted during the working week from 7 am to 4 pm as necessary to complete construction.
Pavement Marking Improvements
Every year, pavement markings are repainted throughout the City including road yellow center line striping, crosswalks, stop bars, and other pavement markings. Because this work requires large areas of the City and negatively impacts traffic flow, the vast majority of the work occurs overnight (8 pm to 6 am). This work is ongoing and paint application is
highly weather dependent
(e.g., wet streets and cold weather prohibits paint installation).
Road Sealing and resurfacing
The Department of Public Services and its contractor, All States Asphalt, Inc., are scheduled to begin road resurfacing work on the attached roads on Monday, September 21, 2026,
weather dependent.
The contractor anticipates it will take three working days to complete the listed streets. Should there be precipitation, the resurfacing may be delayed until the roadway surface has dried. Please avoid using irrigation systems near the roadway, as this may also delay the work.
What to Expect:
Your street is on the list to be resurfaced the week of 9/21, starting Monday, September 21, 2026. The project includes the resurfacing of the existing pavement with a the installation of chip seal. This a very cost‐effective and fast moving process that should impose minimal delay to vehicular access. During this construction be advised that on‐street parking will be restricted between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM from Tuesday through Friday, or once the resurfacing has been completed on your street.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience throughout this process while the City upgrades it’s infrastructure.
