Detour Slated for Bellevue Avenue at Catherine Street

Work Expected to Wrap up in Time for Memorial Day Weekend

NEWPORT -- Motorists who rely on Catherine Street are advised to anticipate detours in the area as road construction gets underway on Catherine Street at the intersection with Bellevue Avenue on Tuesday, May 21^st.

Work is expected to wrap up by Friday morning as crews complete a final concrete restoration project from previous work done by National Grid Gas.   The sub-contractor Hartford Paving will be completing the work and police officers will be onsite to facilitate traffic.  Anyone needing access to businesses or homes within closed section of Catherine will be allowed access via police officers onsite.
Work will consist of:

• Tuesday May 21st
  • Saw cutting the concrete roadway sections with short closures of Catherine
• Wednesday May 22nd:
  • Excavation and removal of concrete and pouring of new concrete roadway
  • Bellevue Ave northbound will be detoured eastbound onto Old Beach Rd to RI Ave to Kay Street from 7am until concrete is poured, then Bellevue Ave will be fully open northbound in late afternoon/early evening
  • Catherine Street from Bellevue Ave to Brinley Street will remain closed 24 hrs. a day

• Thursday May 23rd:
  • Joint Sealing and concrete curing. (no vehicle traffic allowed on Catherine)
• Friday May 24th:
  • Roadway to be fully open and passable by 7a.m.
