New Domain offers expanded Community Engagement, Online Permitting Capabilities
NEWPORT, R.I. (TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 2026) –
The City of Newport is taking a major step forward in how it connects with residents, businesses, and visitors with the official transition to its new
NewportRI.gov
domain—part of a broader effort to modernize services, strengthen security, and make it easier to interact with City government online.
While the new .gov domain brings enhanced reliability and trust, the transition also reflects the City’s continued investment in expanding online services, making it easier for residents, contractors, and businesses to complete more transactions digitally and on their own time.
Among the updates
is the launch of a new, dedicated Utilities website at utilities.newportri.gov,
giving customers a more intuitive place to access billing information, manage accounts, and stay up to date on service-related news.
The City is also relaunching its
Engage Newport platform at engage.newportri.gov,
creating a central hub for tracking and participating in major community initiatives. Residents will be able to follow progress, provide input, and stay engaged with projects such as the annual budget process, the Comprehensive Plan update, and upcoming bond-funded infrastructure improvements.
In another significant enhancement, the City has
also expanded its online permitting system to include engineering-related permits
, such as physical alteration and obstruction permits. These improvements build on the City’s growing suite of digital services, which already allow users to file applications for zoning, building, and historic district approvals online. Together, these tools make it easier to navigate the permitting process, reduce paperwork, and improve turnaround times.
The City has also rolled out a major upgrade to its
Public Records Request system
, now available at
www.NewportRI.gov/APRA,
offering a more streamlined and user-friendly way to submit and track requests from both the City and Police Department.
Residents are advised that despite the new domain, all existing CityofNewport.com links and email addresses will continue to work, and emails sent to those addresses will still be received without interruption. Residents and stakeholders can continue using familiar contact information, though responses from City staff will now come from NewportRI.gov email addresses.
The transition is intended to make it easier for people to interact with City Hall and reflects Newport’s ongoing commitment to improving the way it delivers services while ensuring a secure and user-friendly experience for the community.
