The mission of the Newport Fire Department is to preserve lives and property within the community by providing services directed at the prevention and control of fires, accidents, and other emergencies, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and effectiveness.
The Newport Fire Department provides top-tier Structural Firefighting, Paramedic-level Emergency Medical Services, Special Hazards Response, and Fire Prevention Services to over 25,000 citizens and over 4 million annual visitors. The Fire Department is comprised of 95 personnel divided into three branches: Fire Suppression and EMS personnel, Administration, and Fire Prevention.
The Fire Suppression and EMS branch includes four shifts of 22 personnel each, dispersed among 3 stations. Each shift is comprised of 1 Deputy Chief, 2 Captains, 3 Lieutenants and 16 firefighters.
Administrative personnel include the Fire Chief, who oversees the entire department, the Administrative Officer who manages daily administrative operations for the department, and the Deputy Chief of Training and EMS.
The Fire Prevention Office is overseen by the Fire Marshal, and includes the Captain of Fire Prevention, the Captain Fire Inspector, the Captain Superintendent of Fire Alarm, and the Captain of Fire Suppression Systems.
